A Great Partnership: VWDS x VWCV
At the beginning of 2024, SDC:PT entered a significant partnership with Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles (VWCV), marking a key milestone for our team. Through this partnership, we have also had the opportunity to collaborate with ADMT. ADMT, a subsidiary of VWCV, is focused on advancing autonomous driving technology in the Mobility-As-A-Service sector. Volkswagen’s ID.Buzz is central to our work, and through our collaboration, SDC:PT is able to bring its expertise in data management and big data to help VWCV and ADMT advance autonomous driving technologies.
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ AD Cloud Solution department plays a big role in supporting ADMT by providing Snowpark, a platform that facilitates the Verification and Validation (V&V) processes throughout the development phase. Snowpark ensures that ADMT can effectively test their autonomous systems, making certain that they meet the necessary standards before deployment. SDC:PT’s contribution to this product is centered around our deep understanding of managing and processing large amounts of data, which is crucial for the continued development and fine-tuning of these advanced technologies. Our expertise helps ensure that the systems are optimized and accurate, which plays an important part in the broader goal of autonomous vehicle innovation.
A Trip to Hannover
Recently, I had the privilege of traveling to Hannover to visit Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles and the ADMT team. Although I am based in Lisbon at the SDC tech unit and work for Volkswagen Digital Solutions, this visit provided a valuable opportunity to meet with my colleagues in Hannover! While the primary purpose was professional, it also allowed me to immerse myself in the collaborative environment at ADMT, gaining a firsthand understanding of the work being done… well, that and get to know the city too!
The experience was amazing! It provided an excellent opportunity to strengthen relationships, exchange ideas, and deepen my understanding of the work we are doing together. We spent time discussing various technical processes and reviewing the progress made in autonomous vehicle development. I found it particularly valuable to explore how the systems are designed and tested, as it gave me a clearer context for our work. Seeing the work firsthand helped to deepen my understanding of autonomous driving technology development and the role that each team plays in making these advancements possible.
One of the key takeaways from the trip was our discussions around the 2025 roadmap. These conversations helped provide clarity on the future direction of the project and allowed us to align on key goals and priorities for the coming years. It was interesting to hear the different perspectives from the team and how everyone’s efforts are synchronized to achieve a common goal. The discussions around the roadmap were particularly valuable as they helped me see the bigger picture and understand how our work fits into the broader strategy.
A Common Goal
This visit was more than just an opportunity to check on progress – it was a chance to gain a deeper understanding of how our team contributes to a larger, shared objective. It allowed me to appreciate how each team’s work, while distinct, is essential to the overall success of the product. The work we are doing is challenging, but the collaboration is the key for our success and our combined efforts will lead to meaningful advancements in autonomous driving technologies!
The trip to Hannover gave me a clearer understanding of how all the pieces of the project fit together, and I look forward to continuing this journey with my colleagues. We are moving in the right direction, and I am excited to see what we can achieve in the coming years!
